Instructional Modules

Instructional Modules provide aide to practitioners, researchers, students, and others on planning evaluations, developing data collection instruments, analysis of data collected, and reporting of findings. Modules present overviews of most commonly used evaluation techniques and approaches.

Provides basic information and strategies for those about to conduct an evaluation of library services, resources, or programs.
Overview of selected evaluation methods libraries can use to assess services and resources, as well as some issues associated with using these various methods.
  • Balanced ScoreCard

    Overview of the balanced scorecard method that translates an organization’s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures and provides the framework for strategic measurement and management.

  • Outcomes Assessment Part One

    Overview of outcomes assessment where outcomes assess benefits to individuals, such as changes in skill levels or knowledge based on the individuals participation in training sessions, tutorials, or some other type of activity.

    Continuation of the "Outcomes Assessment" module.

  • Service Quality

    Overview of service quality, where for purposes of this module service quality is defined as an assessment of the overall quality of service(s) provided by a library from the perspective of the library user.

    Approximate time needed: 20 min.

  • Estimating the Value of Library Services

    Overview of selected types of valuation studies that produce findings and results to demonstrate the importance and value of the library.

    Approximate time needed: 20 min.

  • Library Value: Basic Steps and Approaches Part One

    Highlights basic steps of a value evaluation process and presents a range of techniques developed to determine library value.

The data collection module provides information on how to plan for data collection, and the data analysis module provides information related to preparing for and conducting data analysis.
